I’m often inspired when I’m not near my art supplies. If I do have a sketchbook, I may rough something in, but I’m finding that writing the concept out as a quick story helps. It is like recounting a dream and it keeps the idea alive longer. When I read it later I am re-inspired to paint what I had described. Plus, it helps me kick off writing a post when the time comes.

Reminds me of that quote by Chase Jarvis... something like, "the best camera is the one you have with you!" To me, that means we should get the job done in a way that keeps forward momentum going! I, too, use my notes app all the time so I don't lose an idea!

Slightly different, but this reminds me so much of the personal writings of the author Octavia E. Butler, which have been preserved by the Huntington Library near her hometown of Pasadena and published in several forms. You get to see her ideas being fleshed out, her reminders to herself, and the minutiae of her day to day existence all tied together. Her art form was words so they may not be as visually appealing but it’s a similar fascinating peek into a creative mind.
