❤️ 🏺 I have had FOUR finished paper mache projects sitting on my desk for weeks, slapped with their base coats of paint, as I’ve sat *too scared* to try a design. This post couldn’t have come at a better time! I LOVE constraints in art! Thank you for the inspiration! Those designs are gorgeous!
It's one of those oddities of being human, thinking that freedom means having no limits. I still struggle with this within my own boundless creative sparks which keep me from finishing anything.
This is the word of the day for me, I believe. Constraints.
OOO! Looking forward to this! Here's the link to the textile exhibition that led me to be able to see the other pieces including some Dutch darning samplers, something I'd never seen before! They're really something! Made me think of these other parts of works practices leading up to a bigger work.
Oh! Also, l do appreciate your sharing these trouvailles from the V & A! Then how they inspired you! Love it! Now how can I continue this energy in my own projets today!? It's like a relay race where you've passed a Baton!
Oh my gosh, that's kind!! I love the quality the watercolor gives them. I should try to figure out how to replicate that with acrylic paints so I can adorn my papier mâché projects with a similar look!
Yours might be my favourite newsletter on Substack - just endless inspiration!! I feel so excited after reading these! Thank you!!!
You've made my day! Thank you so much!

Where do you look for your design inspiration? 🏺
So many museums have online collections now! I go in person as often as I can... but I love browsing online!
I enjoy working with a three color palette plus white. So many variations are possible and they work well together. Thanks for your insights!

There is an ancient radio lab episode that I think about ALL the time that is of a similar thread of thought.... https://radiolab.org/podcast/91640-choice
