Hi, I’m Corrie. Thanks for stopping by my little corner of Substack.
I write about craft, creativity, and the beautifully niche lanes of handmade culture. My curiosity often leads me on jaunts into historical making practices, traditions, and inventions that shape the world of craft.
Here you’ll find how-tos, personal process diaries and studio updates, explorations of overlooked techniques, and the occasional creative detour. I share discoveries and experiments as they happen. Some posts are practical, while others uncover the meaning or charm of off-the-beaten-path crafts (especially the paper-based ones). I’m endlessly drawn to well-made things, old and new, for the lessons they offer and the courage they help me gather.
A bit about me:
I’m an artist, teacher, and author based in Brooklyn, NY. My work centers on handmade projects: paper, papier-mâché, sewing, and scrappy design solutions. I studied painting in college, spent twenty years working at a design firm, and wrote a book called Handmade Houseplants. These days, I work independently: crafting, teaching, writing, and chasing whatever creative ideas catch my attention. I live with my partner Ryan (also an artist), a small forest of houseplants (some real, many made of paper), and a rotating collection of creative projects.
This Substack is a space for craft, creativity, and conversation. I’m glad you’re here! Let’s see what we can make together. What materials have been tugging at your sleeve lately?
If you enjoy creative discovery, hands-on projects, and the stories hidden in objects, I hope you’ll stick around. Each new post arrives straight to your inbox, and paid subscriptions help sustain the time and care that goes into this work. I share as much as possible for free, and paid readers occasionally receive bonus posts or early glimpses into studio projects. Your support truly makes this space possible!
Thanks for being here.
