Studio Notes: Quilts, Color Experiments, and the Long Thread of Inspiration
A peek at what’s been taking shape: fabric, paper, and a few quiet obsessions.
Hi all!
I’ve fallen into a quilt quagmire again! Ok, it’s really more of a quiet, quintessential, quilt-y quest. Maybe it’s the season, perhaps it’s nostalgia, or maybe I can’t resist the geometry of color and pattern. My studio tables (and floor!) are a mess of fabric squares, paint swatches, and paper scraps. I keep telling myself I’m “just experimenting,” but I’m completely absorbed.
My grandmother taught me how to make my first quilt when I was about eight. It was a small Christmas quilt made of 4-inch blocks and tied with yarn. I have it tucked away somewhere. That first quilt started something that’s never really stopped. Over the years, I’ve made many baby quilts, a queen-size one for our bed, a narrow one for our couch, and a few quilted coats and vests. I’m definitely not an expert at this craft (not by a long shot), but I have an intense love for it.
